Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson has officially changed his name in his hometown of Florida. You can now call him Chad Ocho Cinco. The name change is a Spanish reference to his uniform number 85. Johnson, or should I say Ocho Cinco, has been sporting the name during pre-game warm-ups every since the NFL celebrated Hispanic Heritage month back in 2006 and has been considering the change since last year.

The change to Ocho Cinco is the receiver’s latest promotional move. He’s also known for his touchdown celebrations, his golden Mohawk for one season, his race against a horse and his list of defensive backs who failed to cover him.

Even though he’s changed his name legally, the NFL has not yet agreed to allow him to display Ocho Cinco on the back of his jersey. “While the NFL has recognized the legal name change of Chad Johnson to Chad Ocho Cinco, the league informed the Bengals today that certain issues remain to be resolved before Ocho Cinco will be permitted to wear his new surname on his jersey,” the league said in a statement. Part of these issues involve Chad’s contract with Reebok who produce the jersey sold to fans with Johnson on it. So for now, he’s still Chad Johnson on the field.
