Could this be it for Roy Jones Jr? We don’t know, but it definitely looked like it during Saturday’s boxing match against Europe’s Joe Calzaghe.

As much as his fans try to hold him down, Poor Jones was defeated while carrying an disgusting cut to his left eyelid with blood gushing out. Calzaghe honed in with his precise punches and ultimately pounded on Roy until he reached victory.

What happened Roy? In the mid to late 90’s, Roy Jones Jr was one of the sports finest. It was almost five years to the day that Jones won his last meaningful victory against Antonio Tarver. But although he still has the hunger and drive, many don’t think he still has the same power that he had 10 years ago. And that was visible by the 5th round on Saturday. He definitely ran out of steam during that round. His family and friends even looked on in a way in which they were disappointed and wanted him to bow out gracefully.

Calzaghe, “super” Joe as they call him, defeated Jones and now has a record of 46 out of 46 wins. Many believe he may be following the footsteps of British boxer Lennox Lewis. “This year I just beat two legends, with Hopkins and Jones, and I came to the United States to do it,” Calzaghe said. “I took the risk. They didn’t come to me. I took the risk.”

Dropping their promoters to put the fight together themselves assures Calzaghe and Jones, taking a 50-50 split, each a hefty payday.

That along with the severe beating he received might be enough for Jones to finally hang it up himself, after four losses in his last seven fights.

“I don’t know what’s next,” the former pound-for-pound king said. “I don’t know.”
