“Freeway” Ricky Ross, former LA drug kingpin, has been released from prison. You may recognize the name from rapper Rick Ross. But his lyrical content about the living the dope boy life isn’t as near as true as of one of the nations most infamous drug kings.

In 1996, Ricky Ross was busted for trying to purchase 100 kilos of cocaine from an undercover agent. His life was brought to the television screens on BET’s ‘American Gangster’ series (which ranked the highest most watched episode of the first season). On May 4, he was released from prison after serving a 20 year sentence. In Los Angeles, Ricky headed a multi-state drug trafficking ring which was estimated to have brought in $2 million per day.
Now that Ricky Ross is free, he plans to focus on living a legitimate life. In the works, he is shopping a book and film, starting a new record lable with well-known industry consultant Wendy Day, starting a foundation to help inner-city at-risk youth, and shopping a reality show.
