Foul on the Play: Gilbert’s Suspension admin Thursday, January 7, 2010 The Game Once again another professional athlete has taken a turn for the worse. Today, Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely without pay by NBA commissioner David Stern. Following an incident in which Arenas admitted to bringing guns to the team’s locker room, Stern had originally put a hold on taking action until a complete investigation was conducted. But after Arenas was photographed before yesterday’s game pointing his index finger in a gun formation at his teammates, Stern decided otherwise. In a statement, Stern said “Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game. Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA.” The suspension will cause Arenas who is in the second year of his six-year, $111 million contract to miss out on roughly $147,000 per game.
