Last night, the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas was on and popping with on-lookers betting on the “oldest” fight in years. We mean “oldest” as in the ages of the two legendary boxers, Bernard Hopkins, 45, and Roy Jones Jr., 41.

After a exciting but painful 12 rounds, Hopkins was named the winner by unanimous vote. After the fight, Hopkins admitted that he started seeing spots after the 6th round. This was reflected when he fell to his knees and collapsed in his locker room.

“It was definitely worth it, and it was sweet revenge,” Hopkins said in the ring before collapsing. “It was really rough in there. He’s a good fighter, and he tried to rough me up. I tried to tough it out, but I was seeing spots from the sixth round on.”

It’s evident that fighting may be a death sentence for Hopkins. Boxing is a dangerous sport. As his business partner states, Hopkins may want to rethink any future plans to box.

“For Bernard, it could be a good ending,” said Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, Hopkins’ business partner in boxing promotion. “He got his
revenge, and he waited 17 years to end it. It could be something which as a friend I would advise him to consider. … I think it’s time for his friends and family to have a serious talk with him.”

We congratulate Hopkins on his win against Jones Jr. Although, this was painful for them, the fans appreciate the opportunity to watch two boxing legends duke it out one more time.
