R.I.P Don Cornelius, Creator of ‘Soul Train’ Ms. Bels Thursday, February 2, 2012 The Script 1 Comment Don Cornelius, a music enthusiaist and the creator of “Soul Train”, passed away today in an apparent suicide. The 75 year old was found at his home, by authorities, with a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. The longest running televised dance show was a pioneer in showcasing Black music on tv. For almost 40 years, Cornelius and Soul Train provided an outlet for notable African-American artists to gain national exposure, during a time when there were a handful of artists seen on television. Some of the artists who has graced the Soul Train stage were Al Green, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, The Jackson 5, Chaka Khan to name a few. What a sad way to start Black History month. 🙁 STACKS Magazine would like to send our condolences to the Cornelius family. R.I.P Don!
