Several interesting annoucements were made over the holiday break. But, the one that caught my eye was the New Years Eve annoucement that Scrilla was leaving CTE.  It wasn’t that long ago since I sat down with the Atlanta rapper for an exclusive interview. Based on our discussion, it seems as though all things were going well with Young Jeezy and the label. Apparently, there’s been thoughts of his departure brewing for quite some time.

Well, Scrilla kept it straight to the point on New Years Eve via his Twitter account. Peep what he said below:

To some, the news may not be that big of a surprise considering that his former labelmate Freddie Gibbs also dipped out a few weeks ago.  What is really going on over at CTE?  I know sometimes it is difficult to get certain opportunities as artists while working under the leadership of a big named one, like Young Jeezy. This could be the reason for the sudden exits of Scrilla and Freddie Gibbs.  Both are very talented rappers that have solid fan bases and that can easily become hugely successful artists.  But, how far could they go if they stayed under CTE?

Maybe this was Scrilla’s main concern.  Maybe it was time for him to make bigger moves and the only way to do it is to work independently.  Was the departure a bit premature though??  Nevertheless, Scrilla got skills and lots of charisma. So, I think he will do well as an independent as long as his marketing strategies and music choices are on point.

In the meantime, Scrilla is busy in the studio working on his next mixtape, The Demonstration 2.  TD2 is expected to drop early 2013.
