Peas and Carrots International are on the move. With the success of Casey Veggies, their movement is sustaining itself. With his Customized Greatly series making it to its third volume, Veggies has truly caught momentum. Now, he wants the world to witness his growth and evolution. Life Changes, with its addictive beats and mellow rhymes, serves as the composition for Casey to paint pictures of progress.

To put it bluntly, this mixtape is dope as hell.

The practical consistency in the lyrical development and execution needs to be noted on this release. When songs like “She In My Car”, “My Vision”, and “Young Winners” come on, the listener needs to reach beyond the pedestrian subject matter and hear the heart in his words. This makes the craft of making more serious songs that much easier. Once Casey hits us with impressively deep songs like “Love/Hate, Ulterior Motives”, “Love Me Some You”, “These Days”, and “Take My Life”, it doesn’t seem forced. In short, Veggies is proving nimble enough to waver between the musically mature and the carnally desirous with striking results.

The production on here, however, can hold its own without the lyrics. DJ Dahi’s “Love = Hate, Ulterior Motives” breakdown between the “songs” just revitalizes the track with its demanding contrasts in musicality. While “Whip It” is some pure “top down riding music”, other cuts (like “Love Me Some You” and “These Days”) sports production that soothes the psyche into reminiscing about life and love. With a diverse group of producers, many would expect this project to be all over the place. However, the sound of Life Changes is pretty consistent throughout.

Outside of Kanye like vocal inflections and subject matter that doesn’t always transcend the materialism of life, Life Changes is too compelling to ignore. The production is impressive and the lyrics matches the rhythm and feel of each track. Not every track will be a winner (like the tedious “The Team”). Still, the entire package comes off as immaculate. Time will only tell how life truly keeps changing for Young Veggies.
