Chris Kelly, one half of the multi-platinum selling rap group Kriss Kross, was pronounced dead last night. Kelly was found unresponsive in his home and later pronounced dead at an Atlanta hospital. At the moment, the cause of death is unknown. But some authorities believe he died from a possible drug overdose.

Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and his rap partner, Chris Smith made a huge impact on the music business and hip hop in the 90’s. After being discovered by Atlanta producer Jermaine Dupri, Kriss Kross was signed to Ruffhouse Records at the young age of 13 yrs.  The duo made headlines with their “backwards” choice of fashion style which created a new trend amongst lovers of hip hop.

Kriss Kross’ first album Totally Krossed Out sold over 4 million copies in the U.S.. Several hits derived from that album like “Jump” which stayed on the Billboard 100 charts for eight weeks and “Warm It Up”. In 1993, they released their second album Da Bomb. It peaked at number 2 on the charts and reached platinum status. Only one other album surfaced in 1996, Young Rich & Dangerous. The album went gold but marked the slow downfall of teir rap careers.

Chris Kelly’s family and friends says he kept doing music over the years.  Family members claim he has over 100 songs recorded and that he also went back to school to learn studio engineering.

An autopsy will be conducted this week to determine his cause of death.

The group recently reunited at the So So Def 20th Anniversary concert. Check out their performance below:
