Bullying is becoming more and more frequent among today’s youth in locations like school and online, according to recent bullying statistics. Unfortunately, recent bullying statistics show that bullying is on the rise among young adults, teens and children. 46 percent of males followed by 26 percent of females have admitted to being victims in physical fights as reported in one report of bullying statistics by the Bureau of Justice School.

The statistics on bullying and suicide are alarming:

  • Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.
  • Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University
  • According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying

Many bullying studies revealed that students who are part of a minority group of students based on their gender, race, socioeconomic status as well as sexual preference are reasons other students use to harass. Victims of bullying at school, and bullies themselves, are more likely to experience psychiatric problems in childhood, studies have shown. Now researchers have found that elevated risk of psychiatric trouble extends into adulthood, sometimes even a decade after the intimidation has ended.

Atlanta based Independent Pop Soul artist JStavo, Stop Your Bullying (Anti-Bullying Organization) and the Youth Empowerment & Stability, Inc. (Y.E.S Inc.), collectively sought to raise awareness and funds around anti-bullying and empowering our youth.

On November 9, 2013 this team will host the 1st Annual “iHeart U” Anti-Bullying Basketball Charity Event & Concert in efforts to raise funds and awareness to support anti-bullying for youth. A portion of the proceeds collected from funds raised will help support sponsor efforts to continue to develop and implement programs and events for our youth.
