Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Nas, & More Attend ‘Black Nativity’ Movie Premiere + Official Trailer Ms. Bels Wednesday, November 20, 2013 5-4-3-2-1, The Script Thanksgiving is right around the corner. This is the time of year when family and friends get together to fellowship, feast, get their shopping on, and catch a few new flicks. And as such, Maven Pictures are releasing a contemporary version of an old theater classic that has warmed the hearts of many who has seen it. On November 27, “Black Nativity” will hit theaters with an all-star cast containing many of our favorite entertainers. The film is an adaption of the Langston Hughes’ play, which follows a street-wise youngster from Baltimore. He takes viewers on a journey of being raised in a single-parent household in B-more to spending family time in New York with relatives he hasn’t seen in a long time. During his stay, he gets frustrated by the house rules imposed by the Reverend. It is then that the young man finds inspiration and a set of new friends – while he discovers what it is meant by “having faith”. In the movie, the role of young Langston is play by singer/actor Jacob Latimore. Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs are played by Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett. Langston’s mother, Naima, is played by Jennifer Hudson. Other talented individuals featured in the film are Mary J. Blige, Tyrese Gibson, Nas, and more. The New York premiere of “Black Nativity” took place on Monday evening at the famous Apollo Theater. The red carpet was covered with many of entertainment industries most notable celebrities.
