Despite the few glitches remaining on HealthCare.gov’s website, many Americans have completed the application process and will receive health insurance in 2014.  However, some registrants have dealt with minor issues that may cause some worry for others.

Once you’ve completed the online application, follow-up with your insurance company to confirm that payment has been received. Without knowing if glitches exist on the backside, it is hard to know if your first “premium” payment even made it to the insurer. And your first payment is very important. Luckily, most insurers have postponed payment deadlines until January 10. Those fees received by January 10 will be made retroactive to January 1.  This way you will still have coverage the first two weeks of the year.

In addition, it is best to call the insurance company and make sure that your application was completed properly. Check to see if there aren’t any data errors. The last thing you need is to be rejected when you go set a doctors appointment.

Lastly, if you missed the Christmas Eve deadline, you now have until March 31 to enroll for healthcare.  If you don’t have health coverage, you will be subject to a $95 tax penalty (or 1 percent of your income) the next year.
