Most filers rely on a tax accountant or CPA to answer questions they may have regarding taxes. It’s convenient so why not. That’s what we pay them for, right? Yes, as filers, we do pay the CPA or income tax refund agencies in hopes that they can lend their expert advice. But, it will be even better if we could answer some of those questions on our own.

Did you know that the IRS has an annual publication called Publication 17, which contains nearly 300 pages of information?  Publication 17 is considered the Bible for taxpayers. In it, it provides insight on new tax rates, tax-saving options, and more. The booklet also features interactive links that allows readers to quickly access information they’ve been searching for.

Please note that the IRS update the publication on a yearly basis. Although the information in the 2013 version may still contain reliable information, there may be some revisions that could impact your filing in 2014. So safeguard yourself and check the IRS website every tax season.
