Whether you own a business or work for someone else, you have the right to claim any vehicle expenses associated with work. However, if you deduct a bogus amount, the IRS will surely add you to their audit list.  Make sure you have mileage documented and your gas receipts, for instance. If you use your vehicle for job-related traveling 60 percent of the time, you can not deduct 100% of the gasoline costs and claim it as business-related. This doesn’t fly with the IRS.
