If you haven’t heard about this documentary, then it’s about time that you do.  Released in December 2013, the one-hour film takes viewers on a journey of hip hop star Jay Z from his childhood in Brooklyn to his life as a devoted husband and father. It is called  A Genius Leaves The Hood: The Unauthorized Story of Jay Z.  

For two decades, many have speculated how Jay Z became a successful businessman from once being a narcotics dealer. Several notable industry players took part in the documentary. Each took a stab at figuring out the psyche of Mr. Shawn Carter. Did they come up with a conclusion?  Kind of.  One thing they all could agree on was that Jay is a man who has chartered his own course and stuck to the same script that garnered him riches in the mean streets of Brooklyn.

After watching the film over the weekend, without telling in detail, Jay Z is a complicated man. He is complicated, in that, he thoroughly thinks things through. Jay Z’s timely disassociation with business partners, friends, companies, and such are evidence that his brain is constantly thinking. But the ingenious aspect of his ability to seek and retain wealth is that he remains collected and personable in the process.
