HomeThe Game1st BaseClowney Goes No. 1 in the 2014 NFL Draft; Robinson, Bortles, Watkins and Mack Round Out Top 5 Picks Abner Jackson III Friday, May 9, 2014 1st Base, Feature, Sports, The Game The Houston Texans selected Defensive End Jadeveon Clowney with the number one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Texans needed a Quarterback and decided to pick Clowney. The St. Louis Rams selected Offensive Tackle Greg Robinson with the number two overall pick. The Jacksonville Jaguars shook up things when they selected Quarterback Blake Bortles with third overall pick. The Jaguars need help at most positions and Bortles should be handed the starting Quarterback right away. The Jaguars will need to draft Bortles a Wide Receiver if they want him to succeed. Watkins gives Bills Quarterback EJ Manuel more offensive weapons, Manuel was the Bills first round pick last season. The Oakland Raiders drafted Linebacker Khalil Mack with the fifth overall pick and the Atlanta Falcons selected Offensive Tackle Jake Matthews with the sixth pick. The Tampa Bay Bucs selected Wide Receiver Mike Evans with the seventh overall pick and the Cleveland Browns selected Cornerback Justin Gilbert with the eighth overall pick. The Minnesota Vikings selected Linebacker Anthony Barr with ninth pick and the Detroit Lions selected Tight End Eric Ebron to round out the top 10 picks in the draft. Photo Credit: Ben Lienbenberg/NFL Quarterback Johnny Manziel fell to the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd overall pick and the Browns should have found their QB of the future. Manziel was projected to be a top five overall pick and most mock drafts were messed up after Bortles was selected. The Minnesota Vikings selected QB Teddy Bridgewater with the 32nd pick making Bridgewater the last player selected in the first round. All three QB’s that were selected in the first round should be starting in Week one of the regular season, if not the jobs will be theirs by the end of the season. The Texans may have selected the best overall player in Clowney and the QB position is still a major concern for them if they want to return to the playoffs.
