HomeFeatureMusic Review: @IAmEricRoberson – B Sides, Features, and Heartaches Mark Harris Monday, May 5, 2014 Feature, Music, The Studio Eric Roberson (ERRO for short) has been in it to win it for the past few years. All of his hard work has made him an independent household name in R&B music. With enough worldwide appearances, sold out shows, and dedicated fans to show for his effort, Erro wanted to release something for the fans. He gathered that there are those songs that appear on other projects, or scattered remixes, that people did not get to here. Thus, B Sides, Features, and Heartaches ties up any loose ends and adds to Eric’s ever expanding catalog. Within a few thorough listens, it is apparent that Eric Roberson chooses his collaborations carefully. “Let Me Know” begs his female companion to keep him informed on what is her passion or of her importance. The cosmic xylophone play with the soothing bass lines and drum patterns only uplift “She Was Fly” to inescapable heights. Even the clear remix of “This Could Be The Night” only makes a good song that more exceptional. Easily, Erro makes sure that whomever he collaborates with makes music worthy of his musical abilities (and vice versa). More notably than anything, Eric Roberson makes use of his skills on tracks that are atypical to any he usually approaches. The Les Nubians “Deja-vous” is a mishmash of sounds and rhythms that work against each other in unison. Yet, Erro fits perfectly on the track. The same can be said about “Be A Humanitarian”, the benevolent, soul stirring-nigh-gospel track that ends off with a children’s mass choir. Again, he fits right into the track with no hesitation or reservation. B Sides, Features, and Heartaches is an album full of extras that come together to form an unexpectedly united composition. Regardless of the approach, Eric Roberson has a knack of being on good music. This says a lot about himself and his musicianship. Erro may not have the big accolades and platinum sales. However, you know your career is worthwhile when your features and extra tracks can be put into album form and it still comes out great.
