Top 5 Reasons Paul Pierce Should Sign with Clippers

Paul Pierce will be considered a free agent once this season ends and can sign with any NBA team starting July 1, 2014. Here are the top five reasons I think he should sign with the Clippers.

1. He can reunite with former coach Doc Rivers.

Doc Rivers has been Pierce coach since the 2004 season with the Boston Celtics. Rivers is the coach that Pierce won his first and only NBA championship with. He is very familiar with Rivers style of coaching and and the plays Rivers likes to run. Rivers has more coaching experience than Pierce current Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd. Also, Rivers is one of four active coaches in the NBA that has led his team to a NBA championship.

2. Returns home to Inglewood area.

With Pierce career coming to an end soon, returning home to the Inglewood area where Pierce played high school ball would be a great way to retire. Most players like playing at the Staples Center and playing there as the home team should be a ideal situation for Pierce. Pierce could renew his rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers, instead of playing the Lakers twice a year. He would face them four times a year and could face them in the playoffs also. Pierce won his only championship against the Lakers and the Lakers defeated the Celtics two years later in the NBA Finals.

3. Another chance to return to the NBA Finals.

The Clippers are one of the best teams in the league and most of their bench players can start for a lot of other teams. The Clippers are getting better each year, but they have been underachievers. Chris Paul hasn’t advanced past the conference semifinals in his career. For a team with Blake Griffin, who finished third in the regular season MVP voting, DeAndre Jordan who led the league in rebounding and in field goal %, finished third in blocks. The Clippers needed shooters and JJ Redick was acquired in a trade in the off-season and is one of the best shooters in the league. Jamal Crawford won Sixth Man of the Year and is probably the best sixth man in the league.

The Clippers have the talent to make it to the conference finals and probably should have been playing in the conference finals and possibly the NBA Finals. The Nets have the talent, but the Clippers have more talent and their chemistry is better due to their core being together longer. Pierce is getting older and the Nets are older. The Clippers are going to be around for a while and they have a top three coach in the league. Since Pierce teams can’t get past Lebron James and the Miami Heat, going west means Pierce would only see the Heat in the regular season and maybe the NBA Finals.

4. Can create his own shot.

Paul and Crawford are the only Clippers that can create their own shot. Pierce would be the third player that can create his own shot on their team. Many analysts stated the Clippers don’t really have anyone to take over for them at the end of a game. Pierce can come through in the clutch, can still take over and hit game winning shots for his team.

5. Veteran with good locker room presence

Pierce has appeared in two NBA Finals and four Eastern Conference Finals. Pierce has over 15 years of NBA experience and his leadership could Paul advance further in the playoffs. If the Clippers players want to become a champion, the best way is to learn from a previous champion and from the coach that made helped Pierce became a champion. With the Clippers being a very deep team, Pierce can average around 25-30 minutes a game and play more minutes once the playoffs start. The San Antonio Spurs don’t give their best players big minutes during the season and that has helped them win four championships since 1999. The Clippers have the talent and bench to follow that same logic, if Pierce signs there and they follow the Spurs footsteps they might can become champions like them.
