The days of stashing drugs in secret compartments within vehicles are long over. Nowadays, cartel leaders are taking a more realistic approach. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a tractor trailer was recently stopped in Tuscan, Arizona and inspected. To their surprise, an x-ray device detected a truck load of marijuana disguised as watermelons. The DEA estimates that the cargo had a street value in the millions. They also revealed that this isn’t the first set of “watermelons” seized during a stop-and-search. Marijuana-filled watermelons (9,500 pounds) were seized in 2010 in Arizona. A smaller load (2,100 pounds) of marijuana was found in a trailer earlier this year in Texas. The street value of this shipment was estimated at $925,000. In another strange case of drug smuggling, a Guatemalan man was arrested at the Newark, NJ airport. He was caught smuggling $52,000 worth of cocaine into the U.S.. Instead of watermelons, however, the guy was carrying cocaine disguised as chocolate chips, which were baked into chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were found packed in his suitcase. Source
