HomeFeatureSpurs Beat Heat To Win NBA Title + Kawhi Leonard Earns Finals MVP Abner Jackson III Monday, June 16, 2014 Feature, Scoreboard, The Game Kawhi Leonard led the San Antonio Spurs with 22 points and 10 rebounds to help the Spurs win 104-87 against the Miami Heat to win the NBA title. Leonard was named the 2014 NBA Finals MVP. The Spurs won the series 4-1 and prevented the Heat from winning their third straight championship. Tim Duncan had 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Spurs. Guards Manu Ginobili and Patty Mills came off the bench to score 19 and 17 points for the Spurs. The Spurs won their fifth NBA title in franchise history. Since 1999, the Spurs have won those titles and Duncan has five rings now. LeBron James had a game-high 31 points and 10 rebounds for Miami. James had 17 points in the 1st quarter and helped the Heat start the game with a 22 to 6 lead. The Spurs took the lead with 4:47 left in the second quarter and never trailed again. Chris Bosh had 13 points and 7 rebounds for the Heat. Dwyane Wade scored 11 points and had another disappointing game only making 4 out of 12 shots for Miami. The Big Three of James, Wade and Bosh have the opportunity to opt out of their contracts this offseason. If they decide to stay together, Miami will need to acquire younger players and play Greg Oden more next season. If Oden leaves, they need to sign or trade for a Center and the Heat could also use a better Point Guard. It’s going to be an interesting offseason for Miami and the Spurs might face a challenge if Tim Duncan decides to retire.
