Atlanta Dream Retain Best Record In East; McCoughtry, Schimmel Voted WNBA All-star Starters

Angel McCoughtry’s 22 points and 6 rebounds helped the Atlanta Dream defeat the Connecticut Sun 83-71. McCoughtry scored 12 points in the third quarter and the Dream led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter. Tiffany Hayes had 17 points and 4 rebounds for the Dream. Erika de Souza had 13 points, 7 rebounds and game-high 4 blocks for Atlanta. Sancho Lyttle had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the Dream.

 

The Dream were hitting majority of their shots and hitting from all areas on the court. They made 60% of their three-pointers and 50% of their field goals. The Dream improve to 13-5, have won two games in a row and have the best record in the East Conference.

 

Alex Bentley and Rookie Chiney Ogwumike led the Sun with 19 points each. Ogwumike was selected by Connecticut as the number one overall draft pick in the 2014 WNBA draft and had a game-high 12 rebounds. Katie Douglas had 16 points and team-high 4 assists for the Sun. Rookie Alyssa Thomas failed to score for the Sun. Thomas was 0-7 from the field and went scoreless for the first time in her career. The Sun are 9-11 now and have the third best record in the East Conference.

 

In other news…

 

Angel McCoughtry and Shoni Schimmel were announced as starters for the Eastern Conference All-Stars. The All-star game will air on July 19 at 3:30PM on ESPN.
