HomeFeatureWhy Giving More Than You Receive Creates Happiness… Ms. Bels Wednesday, August 6, 2014 Feature, Lifestyle Oftentimes, we focus so much on what someone can do for us, that we don’t realize how it affects our happiness. When we stress the need to receive, we ultimately block our blessings and inner joy. So, how do we create happiness? To create a happy life, in part, you have to practice the act of giving. Giving can mean several things. It could mean that you give your time by volunteering with a homeless shelter. You could donate a bag of old clothes to the Goodwill or the Salvation Army. You could help a friend with an utility bill by giving them the money to pay it. Or you could train a co-worker on how to use Excel. That’s another form of giving. Giving can be done in various ways. The ultimate outcome of giving your money, time, or even advice, is that you begin to feel good inside. Your spirit is lifted when you give without expecting something in return. Happiness comes from the positive energy and blessings you receive when you give. Once selfishness and a sense of self-entitlement is scrapped away from the essence of who we are, that’s when individuals begin to live a happy life. The best option is to refrain from being so needy and start giving more. It is better for the soul.
