Top 10 Most Expensive U.S. Travel Destinations

The summers coming to an end soon and many families are taking last minute trips before school starts. When traveling with family, oftentimes, the cost of airfare, lodging, food, etc can be overwhelming to those who aim to travel on a budget. But, there are well-off families who spare no expense when taking a vacation. So, where do these wealthy families spend their summer vacations? CheapHotels.org seems to have the answer.

 

In a recent ranking based on prices travelers pay for hotel rooms, CheapHotels.org determined that the average rate of $200-$400 per night for a double room. The cheapest room rate was found in Ogunquit, Maine for $203. The most expensive city was Nantucket, Massachusetts. The average cost for a room there is $301 per night (double occupancy).

 

After researching hotel rates in cities across the U.S. and Canada, CheapHotels.org compiled a list of the Top 10 Most Expensive Destinations in North America.

 

Here’s the list:

  3. Martha’s Vineyard (Massachusetts) $274
  4. Montauk (New York) $264
  5. Cape May (New Jersey) $243
  6. Kennebunkport (Maine) $231

  8. Santa Monica (California) $226
  9. Provincetown (Massachusetts) $214
  10. Ogunquit (Maine) $203

 

Interesting…none of these cities were the ones we expected to be on the list, except for maybe Martha’s Vineyard.
