The who’s who of the entertainment industry has attended and indie to major artists has graced the stage. In 2013, ATL Live on the Park added a special one-off event to their schedule. It was the Hip Hop Unplugged edition, which occurs around the same time as BET’s Hip Hop Awards weekend. This year, the Park Tavern was packed out again as Shanti and Marlon honored several true ATL hip hop pioneers. On Tuesday, Sept. 23rd, the 2nd Annual Hip-Hop Unplugged went underway with many of city’s living legends taking the stage. The night began with performances by K.P. and Envyi, DJ Jelly and DJ Nabs, Backbone, Organized Noize, and Big Gipp. Kenny Burns hosted the event while DJ Trauma and in-house band Quinn and the Jukebox provided the sounds. In addition, several key individuals who helped with the creation of the “Atlanta hip hop scene” were recognized for their contributions. Atlantic Records exec Kawan “KP” Prather first received the Hip-Hop Pro Trailblazer Award. DJ Jelly, DJ Toomp, DJ Nabs, DJ Jaycee and DJ Smurf then earned the Hip-Hop Pro Legend Award. Rapper Big Boi from the influential hip-hop duo Outkast presented the Hip-Hop Pro Visionary Award to Organized Noize. Lastly, Shanti Das awarded Outkast with the Hip-Hop Pro Champions Award. Notables in attendance: Big Boi (Outkast), Tameka Raymond (VH1’s Atlanta Exes), Peter Thomas (Bravo’s RHOA), Gregory Smith (Director, SESAC), Kwanza Hall (Atlanta City Councilman), Ray Daniels (VP of A&R, Epic Records), Theron Thomas (Rock City), Slimm Calhoun (Rapper), Derek J, Donald Woodard (Entertainment Lawyer), Chaka Zulu (Co-founder, DTP), Cool Breeze (Rapper), C-Bone (Dungeon Family), Ashley Reid, Dina Marto, Bernard Parks (Co-Founder of Culture Republic, DJ Toomp Manager), Juan Farmer, Middleman Fresh (Celebrity Stylist) and more. This edition of ATL Live on the Park was sponsored by Cricket Wireless, Gentleman Jack, Cantu Beauty, Aaron’s, and W Hotel Midtown.
