Luckily, we received a press email and decided to check him out. He’s dope. We’re feeling his sound. In case he’s unfamiliar to you as well, check out this info about his music journey and his new single “Came Up.” Devin Miles Standing strong at 500,000 YouTube views coupled with a million Soundcloud plays, Devin Miles is the latest self-made voice from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania challenging he status quo of hip-hop. However, contrary to local voices like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller-the latter of whom has been a longtime close friend-Miles aims to show his personal Pixburgh, a complex view of city-life. “I’m trying to show people the depth of Pitt,” says the early-twenties rapper and producer, disagreeing with pop culture’s portrayal of partying, Steelers, and stacked sandwiches. His title, an homage to the regional dialect, represents a star who came from and thrives in a unique place and time. Fused with Devin’s most honest and courageous lyrics to date, the Fall 2014 release is candid snapshots of the artist and the man, immersed in his city. “Came Up” The track is an anthem for Miles’ upbringing set to a strong boom bap beat paralleled with chill synth chords. As Miles explains it, the lyrics reflect on “the contrast between the humble beginnings of struggling to be heard, to being the one that is looked towards to speak for Pixburgh,” advocating that “‘Came Up’ is my true story of realized potential. Seeing the path to the apex, and the slow and patient grind to finally rise to the top with those that began with me since Day 1.” The lyrics compliment Miles’ assertion, creating a vision that the struggle will lead to perseverance – inherently reflecting on his rise in national prominence. Miles describes this experience through his claim that “we in this game for the long haul and I’m never stopping this train ’til we all on.” His hope for the track and the album is that his dedication to the writing process will allow his message to reach his audience maintaining that. “Creating my own sound and direction and sculpting it from the ground up knowing that the late hours that turned into mornings,” he says, “that the precision and soul put into each lyric, each sound, would shine through.” Follow him @itsdevinmiles!
