Brothers released after 30 Years in Prison

Henry McCollum and Leon Brown released after being falsely accused….

Thirty years ago, Henry McCollum  and half-brother Leon Brown was convicted of the rap and murder of an 11 year-old girl. The family and attorneys of the accused had been fighting for years for the guilty verdict to be overturned in the case, however were unsuccessful. The case had been retried for several years until recently a judge in Roberson County decided to hear the case and overturned the sentence and requested the immediate release of the brothers.

Lawyers from the defendants stated that there was no physical evidence to connect the brothers to the murder. Attorneys also stated that both men had very low IQ’s and law officials at the time had the brothers sign a written confession without legal representation or parental guidance.

The new DNA test showed that Roscoe Artis, 74 who is currently serving time for assaulting 3 other women was indeed that actual murderer of the 11 year-old girl.

McCollum said before he left the prison gates that the first thing he wants to do now that he is free is to “go home take a hot bath and see how that tub feels. I want to go to sleep, wake up the next day and see if all this is real,” McCollum added.”
