HomeFeatureIndie Artist, Rome Alexander, Crosses the Globe with Message of Love Ms. Bels Monday, October 20, 2014 Feature, Music, On The Block, The Studio It is not every day that you meet a young artist that is soft-spoken, articulate, and seems to endure a great sense of humility. Well, 21 year old Rome Alexander is that young artist. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Rome Alexander is a singer/songwriter/musician that began his singing career almost four years ago. With what started as just a hobby in college, songwriting for Rome soon became a passion. In such a short amount of time, Rome has accumulated a devoted group of fans that stretches from the U.S. to across the globe. What appeals to his diverse group of fans is that his music isn’t your ordinary rhythm and blues. Rome’s music embraces different elements (i.e. R&B, Pop, Soul, and Jazz), which is difficult to place in just one genre. But, that is okay. Rome doesn’t want to be categorized or noted as just a R&B artist. His goal is to reach a wide audience and, so far, the recent college graduate is doing a pretty good job. Recently, Rome Alexander spoke candidly about his music and how Stevie Wonder is a big inspiration. “My inspiration is Stevie Wonder. He has such a versatile style and that’s something that I try to emulate.” In addition to Stevie, he says that his songwriting techniques is also inspired heavily by singer/songwriter Ne-Yo . It is Ne-Yo’s ability to start from the ground up, in terms of producing, writing, then singing his songs, that prompted Rome to become a fan. “I’ve always been a huge Ne-Yo fan ever since his first album, which must have been at least ten years ago.” Plus, Rome’s lyrical content revolves around love and girls. He says that he draws from his own personal relationships and by observing other relationships. It is the raw emotion felt during these situations is what he hopes his fans feel after listening to his music. “I want someone to listen to my music and have an emotional response.” Rome, like other indie artists, set goals to someday work or perform on the same stages as many of today’s superstars. One of which is none other than 17x Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, Beyonce’. Rome says he would love to write a song for her one day. With the path that he’s created for himself, this dream may indeed come true. He’s currently signed to Atlanta-based Wealth Nation Entertainment. His most recent single “Bring Me Back” is being distributed by INgrooves, an independent distribution arm to Universal Music Group. “Bring Me Back” has hit the international charts and is now accompanied by visuals. See the video below: Rome Alexander is a young man who’s learning as he go, but offers some great advice on how to stick to your guns and go for it. “Not everyone is going to like your music, but you can’t let that get you down. You have to continue to make it [music] for yourself and the people that do like it. You have to take criticism in stride and keep going forward.” He understands the importance of the artist/fan relationship. This is why Rome says he’ll remain humble and let his fans know that they are appreciated. “It is very important to interact with your fans and let them know that you appreciate their support. I think that this something I plan on doing now until wherever my career ends up. I’ll continue to do that.” Here are a few photos from Rome Alexander’s recent listening party at BQE Restaurant in Atlanta: Rome Alexander, guest, and Buttahman toasting it up for a great event.
