Yesterday, Georgia’s A.J. Green was selected as the Southeastern Conference scholar-athlete of the year and top freshman performer of the year by the league’s coaches. Even with his freshman status, the 6’4 flanker also leads the conference with 951 yards receiving which includes 55 caught passes with eight touchdowns.

Other award winners included:

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was selected the offensive player of the year, as well as the scholar-athlete of the year. He led the SEC in touchdowns (28).

Tennessee’s Eric Berry, a graduate of Creekside, was selected the defensive player of the year. He led Division I with seven interceptions and a conference-record 265 yards in interception returns this season.

Florida’s Brandon James was the special teams player of the year. He scored two touchdowns off punt returns, and had 687 yards in kickoff returns, the second-highest total in school history.

Ole Miss tackle Michael Oher earned the Jacobs Blocking Trophy.

Vanderbilt’s Bobby Johnson and Alabama’s Nick Saban were named coaches of the year.

All winners were named to the All-SEC First Team.
