HomeEvents100 Black Women’s ‘Gourmet Gents’ Raises Tuition for High School Teens [PHOTOS] admin Monday, November 24, 2014 Events, Feature, The Connect, The Vault On Sunday, November 16, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women – Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter held their 23rd Annual Gourmet Gents event. This year, the event’s theme was “Culinary Love Jones,” which was a play off of the film “Love Jones” starring Nia Long and Larenz Tate. Over 300 of Atlanta’s chefs and community leaders packed 200 Peachtree, in downtown Atlanta, to give guests a “Jones-ing” experience by preparing and offering some of their best dishes. To accompany the great food, guests were treated to some soulful entertainment, which included poetry by Emmy Award winning poet Hank Stewart, music by Leonard Beaty, and song selections by American Idol Season 2 contestant Alexis Cierra Holt and Ric Flo. The master of ceremony for the evening was none other than legendary radio personality SiMan Baby, of Majic 107.5/97.5. The Gourmet Gents event is an annual food fest that raises scholarship money for 100 Black Women – Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter’s “Teens on the Move” mentoring program. This year, the program has graduated 35 high school girls from Booker T. Washington High School and Henry W. Grady High School. Since the programs inception in 1995, the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter has given away $750,000 in college scholarships to over 450 young women. STACKS Magazine was onsite to capture the moment and get a taste of various foods, which included chocolate chip pound cake, smoked turkey, spinach dip with steak, spicy collard greens, candied yams, and much more. To say the food was good, would be an understatement. The dishes we tasted were spectacular! We definitely recommend everyone in Atlanta to attend this annual event next year. There’s nothing like great food and watching men cook it. Jamese Beauford, President, 100 Black Women Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter But, the most exciting part of the event was our one-on-one with chapter President, Jamese Beauford. She sat down with the publisher of STACKS Magazine, Ms. Bels, and talked about their annual event, the organizations goals and community outreach programs, and next years calendar of events.
