‘Beyond The Lights’ Box Office Update + Atlanta VIP Screening [PHOTOS]

“Beyond The Lights,” the highly-anticipated black romance about a young singer who finds herself in a desperate-life changing situation – hit theaters last Friday to undeserving numbers. According to box office reports, the film only brought in $6.5 million over the weekend although the film was shown in 1789 screens throughout the U.S..

Some speculate that the film’s trailers seemed cheesy, with not enough pizzazz to them that would entice someone to go see the film. Others put blame on the casting choices. To get families to come out to see a film, you have to use big name (or semi-big name) actors to grow that attention to the project. Nevertheless, the story line was strong enough to pull in over 6 million people since it hit theaters on Friday. So, there is some worth to the film.

To help market the film, nationwide promo runs were conducted last week. Private screenings were held in Baton Rouge, Athens, Knoxville, TN, Charlotte, New York, Atlanta, and several more cities. For the Atlanta VIP & Press Screening event, several celebrities came out to catch a glimpse of the film. In attendance were Cynthia Bailey & Peter Thomas (RHOA), Tameka Raymond (Atlanta Exes), Carl Payne, Trina Braxton (The Braxtons), Stacii Jae (V103), Shanit Das (Press Reset), and many others.
