GO-GETTER: Streetz 94.5’s Jazzy McBee Goes Grand in Career & Community Outreach

Radio personality and community activist Jazzy McBee and top chefs Sammy Davis (Sweet Auburn Seafood) & Erica Wright-Davis (Eat Heavenly Cupcakes) led Atlanta to feed its largest homeless shelter, The Metro Atlanta Task Force. The 2nd annual Grand Feast, a holiday pop-up restaurant, feeds the homeless full service from covered tables and sweet treats to decorative plating and surprise celebrity servers. A grassroots initiative, The Grand Feast is solely powered by donations of local tastemakers, community leaders, volunteers and foodies.  In heavy debut, Jazzy McBee and friends fed over 500 individuals in 2013.  As the shelter faces eviction, McBee and the Davis duo pledge to meet and exceed last year’s relief on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

Jazzy McBee currently works as a radio personality for one of the top Hip Hop radio stations in Atlanta.  You can catch her Middays on Streetz 94.5 from 10a-2p, Monday through Friday.  She plans to branch out into a wide array of fields in the entertainment industry, but none of them will take her away from her strong foundation built around God, family, and community.

How did the idea come about for the Grand Feast and why is it important to give back during the holidays?

The idea came about because my creative director/assistant/publicist she actually came up with the idea last year. We wanted to give back to the homeless and she already know that I’m a big advocate of helping out and giving back to the community.  She was like hey let’s do this Grand Feast.  Last year, we did it with Chef Mike Valli and we fed over 500 homeless people.  Then this year, we did it with Chef Sammy Davis and Erica Davis, we fed over like 650 homeless people and we ran out of plates.  It’s very important to give back, I just always wanted to do that and it’s been in my heart.  Just a way to give back to show God that I’m thankful for his blessings and just help out the community is really big.

Do you host any other community events similar to Grand Feast?

I host a lot of different community events similar to Grand Feast.  Pretty much anytime that someone calls me and say hey Jazzy we want you out in the community or we want you to come and help, I’m always there.  All you need to do is get in contact with my assistant/creative director, Taylor Edwards. She will make sure if my schedule permits that I’m there.

…you appeared in the movie “Think Like A Man” and Migos “Fight Night” music video.  How was it working on both sets and would you like to make a TV appearance soon or do more acting?

Absolutely, I would have to find the time to put acting in my schedule.  Right now, radio just has me so busy, but that’s definitely one of my goals that I want to do is continue more acting.  Being on the set was really fun, so I like it. Long hours.  It’s really fun getting in front of the camera, that’s another thing I want to complete on my goals.
