Sony to Lose $90 Million in ‘The Interview’ Scrap

Sony Pictures is expected to take an estimated $90 million financial hit behind the recent email hacks.

“The Interview,” which was scheduled to be out on Christmas Day, will not be released due to the terroristic threats that are believed to be associated with the North Korean government.  Unfortunately, the film company will suffer for fear of retaliation by North Korea. Retaliation that is rumored to be the White House being blown up.

The setback will cost Sony millions in lost box office revenue. In addition, losses will come from streaming, video-on-demand (VOD), DVD and Blu-ray. The breakdown of losses are as follows:

  • $45 million production budget
  • $35 million in domestic marketing
  • $10 million to $12 million in international marketing

According to TheWrap, there is a possibility that $6 million can be saved or recouped in the marketing area.
