OK, we may be stretching it a bit. If you really think about big business and the impact it has on consumers, brands, and how society operates, then YES, social media does rule the world. However, social media networks also bring on a new set of rules when it comes to entertainment. Nowadays, we rely on social media for our daily news, gossip, comedy, and anything else that can be posted as an image or 15 second video. Oftentimes, it’s one individual who is behind the profile page that’s running a full-on entertainment operation, and not a TV network or top-tier news outlet. Who are these social media darlings that has conjured up a culture of its own? Who does STACKS Magazine consider to be #INSTAFAMEUS? Well, we decided to surf the social playground of Instagram to find the best and brightest new crop of entertainers and/or entrepreneurs. Although, these individuals receive loads of attention through a swarm of social media fans, we wanted to take a moment to recognize them formally and dig a little deeper into lives. In late 2014, STACKS Mag’s Quinnie caught up with DC Young Fly to find out what he’s been up to since his rise to fame on social media. We learned that he has a lot going on and big plans for his future. Keep you eye on this funny guy….he’s going places! We know DC from his IG videos. But, what do you like to do? DC Young Fly: I just like to make money and take care of family, trying to get up out the hood and I have 3 mixtapes online. Oh, so you rap! How long have you been rapping? DC Young Fly: I been rapping since 08 What are the names of your mixtapes and where can they be found? DC Young Fly: My most recent mixtape is Young Fly: Industry Most Wanted if you search my name my mixtapes will just pop up. What celebrities have you met? DC Young Fly: I met a lot of people. A few have stuck their hand out and want to help. I met Mike Epps, met Kevin Hart (well not in person, we talked on IG). I met B.O.B., Rae Sremmurd, Mike Will [Made It] and many more. Did those connections came from IG or were they prior to? DC Young Fly: IG helped my fame become more wide spread and not just in my hood. Everybody want to roll with him, take a picture, and want me to say “Bring That A$$ Here BOI” and “Fawk U Meeann.” It’s cool though! Who was the most influential person that you’ve met? Or haven’t you met that person yet? DC Young Fly: I haven’t met that person yet, but it was big moment for me when Kevin Hart went back and forth on IG with me. After that situation, a lot of people came for me and things got crazy, but in a good way. Do you plan on venturing into comedy? DC Young Fly: I do comedy. I do stand up in little clubs and night clubs. Do you remember the first IG or Vine video that went viral? DC Young Fly: No, I don’t really remember the video, but it was November 26, 2013 that I started on Vine. I transitioned to IG because the videos were longer. How do you deal with your new found popularity and fame? DC Young Fly: I have always been popular, so popularity is nothing to me. I just enjoy knowing that people are respecting me for who I am. Where do you want be within the next year? DC Young Fly: I want to be on top of the world; I will continue with my music. I am an independent artist and I like it that way. I will continue to keep moving, making connections and making money. By next year, I want to be in movies and winning awards. Special thanks to DC Young Fly for the interview.
