The story of Vanessa Collier has sparked national press after her funeral was canceled 15 minutes after her service started.

New Hope Ministries decided not to move forward with the home going celebration for Collins after reviewing a video of Collier proposing to her wife and other gay photos in the obituary. The church stated that they are community-oriented and accept gay people in their church, however, request that the lifestyle be censored in church.

After the family denied the request of the taking any videos and photos down or being edited, the church decided not to move forward with the funeral. After total shock from over 170 family and friends, the funeral was moved to a mortuary across the street.

Since the funeral, friends, supporters and family members of Collier and the gay community protested against the church. Chaplain Gary Rolanda who presided over the funeral stated that he thinks that it’s a shame that people are using Colliers death to push an agenda.

Collier was killed after her gun accidentally went off as she was cleaning it.
