Grammy award-winning artist, Common, stopped by The Breakfast Club to chop it up with DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, and Angela Yee. Common spoke on his recent Grammy win and how Jay Z was stoked that he had won. He also clarified “somewhat” the confusion surrounding Beyonce/Ledisi situation and his infamous history with some of the industry’s most sought-after women. When Common’s not working on music, the hip hop veteran perfect his craft in other profitable areas (i.e. books, films). So, what’s his secret for longevity? Angela Yee posed the question to find out how important it is for artists to evolve. “You can’t be afraid to change sometimes. Like, you came out saying one thing. We all grow. We all, like, evolve as human beings. You want to find your voice. You don’t want to just be imitating everybody else. Because you will be that run-of-the-mill artist. You hear and then you just fly by night. If you bring something unique… Even with Charlamagne saying like, “YO, we though Yeezus was Ye’s Electric Circus.” Ye will bring you something each time to make you keep you on your toes. If you know, like, this artist is going to do the same thing and their on their fifth album, after awhile you like…it’s like a woman and y’all doing the same position every time. You know you want to flip it. Know what I mean.” Follow Common on social media @common !
