President Barack Obama understands that without more citizens filling jobs, the U.S. economy doesn’t stand a real chance at sustaining itself. With this in mind, Obama is pushing a new initiative surrounding the technology field. The program is called TechHire. In this program, U.S. workers will be given training on various areas such as network administration, software development and cyber security. According to the White House, there are over 2.5 million jobs nationwide that are technology-based. And if given the proper tools, U.S. workers have a greater opportunity at obtaining tech jobs that pay 50 percent higher salaries than the private sector. Over 300 companies and government agencies have agreed to train and hire workers through the TechHire program. Under the plan, local colleges and universities are expected to train and place workers in jobs within a matter of months.
