Back in February 2014, we reported that celebrity hair stylist, Terrence Davidson, filed a $30 million infringement lawsuit against Nicki Minaj. Well, recently Mr. Davidson won an appeal to have the case re-opened. One contributor to Nicki Minaj’s rise to stardom was her over-the-top hairstyles. Her colorful custom wigs became a must-see during red carpet appearances, music videos, and performances. At some point, selling knock-off versions of the wig designs was going to be a joint business venture between Nicki Minaj and the wig maker, Terrance. But after being fired in 2013, as Nicki’s personal hair stylist, Terrance claims that she took the designs and began selling them to the public through a company called Pink Personality. Terrence’s lawsuit claims that he was cheated out of millions ($30 million to be exact). However, Nicki accuses Terrence of feeling some type of way because he was fired. She also believes that she did nothing wrong by selling the designs, since wig designs can’t be trademarked anyway. Now, Terrence has been granted a second chance at getting his money. An appeal court sided with Terrence and is allowing the lawsuit to be re-open. According the court, not having a written contract doesn’t grant Nicki the right to jacked the designs and sell them. It is going to be interesting to see how this all turns out.
