This Saturday, May 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, SHOWTIME Sports® will present “IVERSON,” a feature-length film on the legacy of NBA great Allen Iverson. In 2014, the documentary gained a lot of attention after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. Allen Iverson’s career and personal triumphs (and defeats) makes him an icon within the sport and hip-hop culture. The film, which told in Iverson’s words, reveals his harsh childhood in Virginia, imprisonment, Georgetown years, and life as a Philadelphia 76er. The film is said to be honest and authentic, getting in depth about his legal issues and ultimately retiring from the NBA. IVERSON will feature interviews from Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade, Tom Brokaw, Coaches Thompson and Larry Brown and Iverson himself. “Allen’s story has always been one I’ve wanted to tell,” said producer/director Zatella Beatty. “It goes beyond basketball and speaks directly to the human condition of strength, determination, heart and a relentless pursuit to fulfill one’s dream. The moment I met Allen we bonded over that perspective and I’m grateful for the opportunity to tell his story both on and off the court.” The documentary is from 214 Films and produced and directed by Zatella Beatty, producers Ted Faye and Stephen P. Perry with executive producers Mike Tollin and Gary D. Moore.
