Whether it’s a deep quote or caption that you can relate to, those you follow on IG may surprise you. And, that’s what happened late last night. I scrolled upon some “real talk” courtesy of Atlanta rapper/activist, Killer Mike. Relationships are complicated as it is. But, we oftentimes make relationships even more complicated by being unrealistic. There’s a meme floating around that reads “Be A Boss. Date A Boss. Build An Empire.” Killer Mike posted it on his IG page and regurgitated the thoughts of many of us “regular” folks that simply want to live a decent life with the one we love. In his caption, he wrote… How bout we just work on killing our debt, having a decent retirement fund and making some wise investments. Empires require shit like lies, corruption and slavery n such. When in reality, we should take small steps towards securing our financial future. It’s not always about “building an empire”. Every couple will not be Jay Z and Beyonce. Most of us do not have the resources or wealth to create an empire of the Carter’s magnitude. However, what we do have is a little money and that’s enough to work with. Like Killer Mike points out, it’s okay to work together on a smaller scale. Slashing your debt and building a nest egg that’s compatible with YOUR lifestyle should be the goal. Once those things are in order, the possibility of creating a grander life for you and your family becomes that much greater! Thanks Killer for always putting things in perspective!
