HomeFeatureDavid West Takes Pay Cut to Sign with San Antonio Spurs Abner Jackson III Wednesday, July 8, 2015 Feature, Sports, The Game Free agent forward David West agreed to terms with the San Antonio Spurs. West accepted the veteran’s minimum salary of $1.4 million to sign with the Spurs. West opted out of his contract with the Indiana Pacers that would have paid him $12.6 million next season. West averaged 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and a career-high 3.7 assists last season for Indiana. West turns 35 years old next month and his window to win a championship is getting smaller. West took a huge pay cut to play with the Spurs, but winning was more important than money. West averaged 28 minutes last season for the Pacers and will probably average around 20 minutes a game next season. The Spurs are looking like the team to beat now in the Western Conference with the signing of West and LaMarcus Aldridge. West has been to the Eastern Conference Finals before and he has a good chance of going to his first Western Conference Finals. West goal is reaching the NBA Finals and to win his first NBA championship, if he wins a title maybe more players will go after championships instead of big paydays. Photo credit: ProjectSpurs.com
