OK. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is simply tired of hearing about the Kardashian and Jenner families. The outspoken connoisseur of pop culture took to his social media this past week to express his frustrations about the clan. He also used the moment to challenge all media outlets to NOT report any Kardashian news – and anyone relatives/boyfriends associated with the crew – for an entire week starting August 17th. Here’s what was said via PerezHilton.com … Do U ever feel like there’s just TOO MUCH Kardashian news out there????? Well if so, then you’re in luck, because PerezHilton.com will not be posting a single story about the Keeping Up With The Kardashians family for an entire week!!! From August 17-21, you can come here for all of the juiciest entertainment news without having to be bombarded by Kim Kardashian, Caitlyn Jenner, and everyone in between! All Kardashians, Jenners and their boyfriends/husbands/exes! Their kids too!!! So what will we be covering in their place? Instead of the Kardashian klan, next week we’ll be highlighting DAILY inspiring stories about amazing women from all around the world! BUT here’s the thing …*Dej Loaf voice* The problem with this challenge of #NoKardashiansForAWeek is that the family has embedded themselves so far up into the culture’s ASSets that you can’t help but report about them. Each week there’s something new happening to either Kim, Khloe, Kylie…and even their father/mother, Caitlyn (formerly known as Bruce Jenner). They are media starlets as far as newspapers and magazine’s go. It is very hard to ignore their family…IJS. Now, I do agree with Perez that there has to be better news to report about. His idea of replacing Kardashian stories with inspirational ones is brilliant! We, as a society that’s so engulfed in gossip and tabloids, need to read up on other things that less glitz and glam. We need more “real” stories of everyday people. Celebrity and the news that comes with it is overrated. So, readers do need some balance or, in this case, a break. However, is it too late? I would say YES. If it isn’t Perez, then it will be another blog or news outlet that will report on the Kardashians. One of the members of the family will do something that will spark national or international attention. So is it even worth it to ban them for one week??
