By: Antoinette Alston, contributing intern The Weeknd’s classic piano-driven ballad “Tell Your Friends,” a hit song from his album Beauty Behind the Madness, has sold 412,000 units in the first week. Now, Drake has provided a special remix that premiered over the Labor Day weekend. Drake’s remix premiered on OVO Sound Radio during a Beats 1 show and in the song it appears that Drake is expressing his gratitude for his rumored girlfriend and tennis pro Serena Williams. Drake expresses these feelings with lyrics like, “Yeah, the ball is in your court / No defense, nobody’s keeping score / No offense but I’ve played this before / Maybe you can and you just don’t care anymore.” He further explains his new found passion to indulge Ms. Williams by buying her things by saying: “Your body insane in person / Wanna do special things for you, you deserve it / But you too famous to buy you purses / That barely scratches the surface / This time it’s different, you give me purpose.” Ms. William might be flattered by Drake’s attempt to express his emotions for her, but she is focusing on winning her Quarter final match against her sister, Venus Williams. Serena is attempting to become a consecutive title winner of the calendar Grand Slam at the U.S. Open. With all the tension surrounding Drake – beef with Meek Mill, “Lil Weezyana Fest” appearance being cut from the Tidal broadcast, and his unofficial Apple contract – Drake has been delivering hit after hit, so our best guess is that this remix will be a hit too.
