HomeFeaturePrivacy At-Stake With New Facebook Photo Feature admin Monday, November 16, 2015 Feature, Technology Facebook has launched a new photo feature, in Australia, that is tampering with user privacy. The main reason why privacy is in question is because of Facebook’s Messenger connection. As many know, when a photo is uploaded, Facebook automatically does “facial recognition” on the individual faces in the photo. Now, if Facebook Messenger is installed on your phone, under each uploaded photo, you will be asked if you’d like to send the photo to the people in the photo. Facebook will automatically put up the names of each person in the person based on what’s in your phone. Privacy becomes a problem because Facebook, in theory, has scanned your phonebook (or list of contacts) and pre-selected the names in which you photo can be shared. But what if Facebook makes a mistake and selected a contact’s name that isn’t in the photo? And you mistakenly “send” the photo to that person. This will become a nightmare especially if you have photos on your phone you do not care to share with anyone!
