Grandfather leaves granddaughter alone with gun….

Paul Rater, 53 is being charged with child abuse after police say he left the child alone. Rater is currently being held on $25,000 bond after being accused of leaving the grand-daughter alone in the desert with a loaded handgun. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said in an official report that, “The pair set out for a ride in the desert late Sunday, and four hours later the little girl was reported missing. Police began to look for her after the girl’s mother reported her missing.”

Police helicopters and several other rescue and search authorities searched for the little girl and was later found by a firefighter after they heard her cries. The little girl told her grand-mother, “I don’t know why papa left me. I was calling out for him. He took me by some bushes, gave me a gun and left.” Rater was tracked down by authorities and he stated that his truck got stuck and he had to walk for help and only abandoned her under a tree after she couldn’t walk any further. “She was given the gun and told to shoot any bad guys,” Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
