Cam Newton led the Carolina Panthers to a close 38-35 victory over the New York Giants. Carolina is now 14-0 and only have two regular season games remaining with a chance of having a perfect season. Newton threw for 340 yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. This was a game with playoff implications and the Giants could still win the division title in the NFC East. Newton also had 8 carries for 100 yards with a 116.9 quarterback rating. Newton was the first quarterback in the history of the league to throw for five touchdowns and rush for a 100 yards in the same game. This was Newton second game with five touchdowns in the last three weeks and he has thrown 13 touchdowns and 1 interception in the last three games. Newton is having his best season in his short five-year NFL career; Newton has thrown for 3,402 yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a 98.9 QB rating. The five touchdowns, keeping his team perfect, becoming the first QB to pass for five TD’s and rush for a 100 yards in a game were my reasons for picking Newton as my player of the week.
