It’s crazy when you actually know the people you write about. It’s even crazier when you watch them accomplish great things. This is the case with “South Beach Tow” star, Bernice. To friends and family, she’s known as Lakatriona “Kay Kay” Brunson. On Monday, February 8, 2016, Brunson took a huge step away from reality television (and celebrity spotlight) and into high school football. She made history by becoming the first female head coach for Miami Jackson High School. Also, Brunson is the first female high school head coach in the state of Florida. For those who question her ability to lead a football team, Brunson isn’t new to the sport. She’s been an athlete all her life. Brunson played sports in high school and went on to Tennessee State University as a basketball player. Brunson served as defensive end for the Miami Fury for several years. Fury is part of the Independent Women’s Football League. She’s been featured in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on several occasions. Her day-to-day occupation is working as a physical education teacher at Miami Jackson. During yesterday’s press conference, Brunson made it clear why she was there and want she wanted to accomplish as coach. “Today is historic,” Brunson told assembled media. “We’re here to change the atmosphere at Miami Jackson and get some W’s on the board. I know I’m a woman, but I know that I can do the job here. You all just [wait] around for it…big things are going to happen here.” “I’m ready for whatever comes my way. I don’t like to lose and I love to win. And anyone that has doubt; has no place around me or around Jackson. I’ve played football for eight years. I can talk the talk and walk the walk. If they want to talk football lets go. If they want to play football, strap up,” Brunson added. In addition to Brunson, Luther Campbell aka Uncle Luke (2 Live Crew) will serve as assistant head coach to the Miami Jackson Generals. Congratulations Lakatriona & Luther!!
