Sony broke major bread with U.K. recording artist, Adele.  The British songstress reportedly signed a whopping £90 million ($130 million USD) recording contract, making it groundbreaking for the entire music industry.

The first ever British artist to receive the largest record deal from Sony was, apparently, in talks with the label for some time. Her original contract with British label, XL, expired in 2015. Sony shot their shot and secured the deal in late 2015. The Guardian reports that Adele’s manager, Jonathan Watkins was the person to broker the nine-figure deal with the record label.

28-year-old Adele was worth an estimated £85m ($123 million USD) before the Sony deal. Her 2015 release of album 25 generated over £35m in sales worldwide and sold 19 million copies-to-date. To many, Adele is recognized as being the biggest music star of this generation.
