40-year-old Tamika Lanese Bailey has been accused of stealing more than $100,000 from a popular Birmingham church. Authorities say Bailey was arrested after the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church accused her of taking their money. Bailey, a University of Alabama alum, was in a “position of trust” as an accounting manager at the church. She used her position to divert $93,000 for personal use and $50,000 to a dead relative into a private bank account. Bailey began the theft in February 2014 up until December 2015. Birmingham police detective Sergeant L. Roby stated “she took the money to support a lavish lifestyle.” Church officials has conducted a thorough investigation and that adjustments to their internal controls process has been made. The investigation into Bailey’s swindling is still ongoing. She was released from jail after posting a $30,000 on Tuesday evening (May 10).
