Ed Sheeran is being sued by two U.K. songwriters who says their song was stolen. Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard, along with HaloSongs publishing company, are suing the British singer over his 2015 smash “Photograph.” The songwriters filed a lawsuit claiming that their song, “Amazing,” which was recorded by singer Matt Cardle in 2009, has outstanding similarities. Cardle won the British version of “X Factor” in 2010. According to The Hollywood Reporter… “The songs’ similarities reach the very essence of the work,” the plaintiffs’ complaint read. “The similarities go beyond substantial, which is itself sufficient to establish copyright infringement, and are in fact striking. The similarity of words, vocal style, vocal melody, melody and rhythm are clear indicators, among other things, that ‘Photograph’ copies ‘Amazing.'” Harrington and Leonard are being represented by attorney Richard Busch. They are asking for $20 million in losses. Busch is famously known for helping Marvin Gaye’s family win $7.3 million in their copyright infringement case against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.
