The Democratic nomination became official last night as Hillary Clinton accepted the nomination for U.S. President. She is the first woman in history to be selected to run for the highest political office by a majority party. “I’m so happy this day has come,” stated Hillary Clinton as she stepped on stage with much emotion. “Today, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more perfect union: The first time that a major party has nominated a woman for President. Standing here as my mother’s daughter’s, and my daughter’s mother, I’m so happy this day has come. Happy for grandmothers and little girls and everyone in between. Happy for boys and men, too, because when any barrier falls in America, for anyone, it clears the way for everyone. When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.” Clinton touched on several topics, which included her Republican rival Donald Trump and America’s tribulations with gun control. She supports the right to bear arms, but feels as though the controlling of guns should be increased. “I’m not here to repeal the 2nd Amendment. I’m not here to take away your guns. I just don’t want you to be shot by someone who shouldn’t have a gun in the first place,” she said. This was the first time Clinton formally addressed the convention.
